architect’s plans’ quiver

house 2023

O : Haha, funny. Yeah of course, I’m on it !

pure bliss

D : Hey so do you see the kind of quivers elves wear in medieval fantasy pieces ? Could you make one but for the ghost of an architect from another time ?

the quiver’s tales

In 2023, David Nguyen approached me to work on a short film he directed and produced. It was aimed to be a commercial for Blum Sieber Architects, an architectural firm specializing in sustainable construction. The project was shot in a disused sanatorium and a lot of work had to be done. In addition to my job as set designer, I proposed myself as a prop designer because David wanted a special accessory for one of the characters (the ghost of an architect from yesteryear, interpreted by Elo Cinquanta).

It was my first time ever crafting a prop and I just loved it ! I’ve quite always enjoyed tinkering, building stuff. So doing this as part of my job ? Yup, yup, yup, that’s the way. After I illustrated my ideas and gathered the right materials I tried some things out. The last touch to add was the suited patina and soon I had a brand new vintage looking plans’ quiver in my hands.

I transformed thoughts into a physical object !

the feeling ?

magical pop-up book

rts voeux 2024

For this project produced by Cornland studio, I was again contacted by David Nguyen who co-directed « Carte de voeux de la RTS » alongside Michael Guillod.

Here the idea was simple enough, I had to craft a magical pop-up book and the cover was to be based on a design developed by RTS, which presented its new visual identity at the end of the year.

Special effects were meticulously designed and added in post-production by Theo Donatantonio and I had to work on creating some manual mechanisms that were to be enabled by the actor for some close-up shots.

I really wanted my work to be infused with the magic of renewal that winter sometimes brings. The item had to be sober yet elaborate so as not to look cheap. I opted for crafting a hard cover with geometric elements assembled to match the design previously supplied by the RTS. This created relief, shadows, nuances and structure to the mesmerizing image. The whole thing then got enhanced by the final application of a velvet-touch paper.
